Mining utilizes the pickaxe tool. There are 5 tiers of pickaxes, with each tier increasing the mining speed.

In practice, players can achieve gear scores which are not in the above range, since these are the crafting values for equal quality crafting. As an example, take the "Starmetal Mining Pickaxe". If the pickaxe is crafted at Engineering level 100 with secondary materials T2, it can lower the minimal gear score range by 20. This reduces the gathering speed slightly, but also enables players to use the pickaxe at lower levels (still at least 37).
