Players can join one of the 3 Factions found throughout the island of Aeternum. Choosing a faction allows for open world PVP. Belonging to a faction also gives the player access to additional missions, gear, and items through Faction Representatives found in Settlements.

New World Factions

Factions[]

Covenant Covenant A divine order charged with cleansing the land of heretics and defilers so that its true holy nature and justice can be restored.
Marauders Marauders A ruthless military force hell-bent on establishing a free nation where anyone with the strength to do so can prosper and profit.
Syndicate Syndicate A secretive organization of boundless guile and intellect in search of forbidden knowledge to usher in a new age of enlightenment.

How to Join a Faction[]

Once you wash up on the shores of Aeternum you’re guided through a series of beginner quests. You will need to complete those quests to unlock factions. Once you complete the first few quests, you will be directed to the closest town. Continue to progress through these quests and you will eventually meet the leaders of each Faction. Once you have met each one, you will then be faced with a choice of which faction to join.

Each Faction has an Enclave with its own Fast-Travel Shrine located in Everfall. These will act as the “quest hub” as you travel through a series of Faction Story Quests to join your faction and progress through its ranks. Faction Story Quests are tracked in the Journal menu screens under Objectives. You can also use this menu to pin the quest objective to your play screen.

How to Switch Factions[]

You can change your faction once every 60 days. To change factions, you simply need to press the default key of “K” and go to the Bio tab. In the bottom left-hand corner, there is a Change Faction button. If you are in a Company you must first leave the company before you can join a different faction. Upon changing factions, any faction gear that you have purchased from your old faction will be yours to keep. Faction Reputation and FactionTokensFaction Tokens do not transfer to your new faction, but remain as-is in your old faction so they will still be there if you eventually transfer back.

History note: During the original release of the game, you could switch factions at any time. But some players used this to switch factions often, acting as mercenaries to fight for whichever Company paid more to have them in Wars. This meant that only the top ~150 people on any server were able to participate in Wars.[1] So the 60-day faction change cooldown was instituted to help prevent this.

How Faction Relates to PVP[]

Open World PVP[]

Anyone from any faction can opt-in to PvP while in the open world. Once you have joined a faction, you can flag up for PvP in any Sanctuary. Sanctuaries are places where players cannot damage other players. Settlements, Outpost, and Fast-Travel Shrines are considered Sanctuaries. Once in a Sanctuary, you flag by pressing the default key of "U". Once you leave the Sanctuary PVP flagged, you have a 30 second timer until you can damage or be damaged by PVP players from other Factions. When you are ready to unflag, you must return to a Sanctuary and hit the "U" key again to do so.

Any players from the same faction can form a group while PVP flagged. You cannot join a PVP group with members of other factions. You cannot join a group of unflagged players while you are PVP flagged.

Faction Missions[]

Missions given by your Faction Representative can be used to earn XP, CoinCoin, and FactionTokensFaction Tokens. You can spend Faction Tokens to unlock Faction-specific styled gear. PVP Faction Missions can also raise or decrease Faction Influence in a territory.

War[]

  • A player can only join companies in their own faction.

Factions can go to war over a territory and fight to control it. This is done by increasing faction influence until the territory goes into Conflict. War can then be declared to occur at a specific date/time selected by the declaring company.

If two settlements are controlled by the same faction their settlement storages are linked. Players can transfer items from a storage linked to their current location for a coin fee. If the territories are not linked then your storage is localized.
