Equipment is the category of item in New World that contains Weapons, Apparel and Tools.

Crafted Equipment[]

Equipment can be crafted by a player using the appropriate Crafting skill. Crafted equipment will have a gear score that falls within a range determined by the tier of the item as well as the player's crafting skill ability. If the player chooses to increase the number of resources spent in crafting, there is a higher chance that the crafted item will have one or more Perks or Empty Gem Sockets.

It can also be dropped by enemies and found in Boxes.

Looted Equipment[]

Examples of equipment rarity

In addition to crafting equipment, players may obtain equipment by killing and looting creatures. Tougher creatures will drop higher rarity equipment with a higher gear score. The number of perks on a piece of equipment determines its rarity. A piece of equipment can have up to 3 perks.[1]

  • No Perks: Common- This level or rarity does not bind on equip.
  • 1 Perk: Uncommon
  • 2 Perks: Rare
  • 3 Perks: Epic
  • 3 Perks + Guaranteed Gem Slot: Legendary

Randomly, a piece of non-legendary equipment may have a Gem Slot.

Named Items[]

Named items feature pre-determined perks and gem slots. There is a higher chance of a Named item dropping from more difficult creatures and mutated dungeons, but there are items of this rarity at all skill levels. Unlike regular items, Named items have fixed Gear Scores.

Trinkets and Bags[]

  • Trinkets provide passive bonuses. All Trinkets feature a gem slot with a permanent slotted gem. Some perks only appear on Trinkets.
  • Bags increase the amount of weight a player can carry and also feature a unique set of perks.

Equipment Load and Armour Rating[]

All pieces of equipment have a weight that contributes to the player's equip load. Equip Load dictates a player's dodge. Your current equip load can be seen on the left side of the inventory screen. Armor comes in three types: Light, Medium, and Heavy.
The combined weight of equipped armor and shield determines your equip load. Each equip load offers a unique dodge and other effects.
