Echidna is the first boss of the Hive of Gorgons raid. She is ancient and greying, branches worn, with sharp obsidian crystals protruding from her back.[1]

Echidna can sense you through the ground and focuses her rock armor to absorb your attacks.[2]


She is a Level 70 Angry Earth enemy with 6,986,800 health. Her armor provides 50% mitigation to Physical and Elemental attacks. She is weak to Fire (+5%), Slash (+2.5%), and Thrust (+1%) damage.[3]

Boss Fight[]

Phase 1[]

Echidna does a great deal of Rend and Stamina damage to anyone tanking her.

During the fight, players out in the arena will see rumbling on parts of the ground indicating that a pillar will pop up soon. If you stand on the rumbling area you will be shot into the air onto the top of the pillar (it will damage you). There are 4 height-levels to the pillars. You can mine pillars to lower their height.

Echidna inflicts a Weaken mechanic throughout the entire arena for the duration of the fight. This debuff is stronger the closer players are to the ground.

  • Players on the ground suffer -70% to the base damage of their attacks[8].
  • Players on the lowest (height 1) pillars suffer -60% to the base damage of their attacks[9].
  • Players on the next-highest (height 2) pillars suffer a -40% to the base damage of their attacks[10].
  • Players on top of the higher (height 3) and tallest (height 4) pillars are not Weakened. They instead gain a +10% to the base damage of their attacks and do 3 times as much damage to Echidna's stamina[11].

When her stamina bar is depleted, Echidna will fall on her side. Players attacking Echidna's back during this time do 200% damage[12].

Phase 2[]

Phase 2 begins when Echidna reaches half health.

Trivia[]

  • When designing Echidna's model, they used the same rig model as the Armored Drakes in Elysian Wilds and Sulfur Dragons in Brimstone Sands.[13]
  • The Echidna of Greek mythology was a monster, half-woman and half-snake. She was the mate of Typhon and the mother of many of the most famous monsters of Greek myth.
  • Echidna animals have poor eyesight and spikes on their backs.
